I’ve always had to brown meats in another pot when using a crock pot or slow cooker. Normally, I would soak dry beans all night and then let them cook all day in a slow cooker OR boil them in a pot on the stove and hope they don't scorch. It is amazing to me how versatile one device can be. The metal parts of the cover will burn you quite quickly however as I found out. So far I have only used the Instant Pot IP-DU060 pressure cooker to cook some brown parboiled rice. Simply steamed them for 6 minutes on the trivet with a cup of water in the bottom. The recipe said 3 minutes with steam & I had to increase the time to 7 minutes.
